There are two main types of asylum:

Family-based Immigration
U.S. immigration law allows citizens and permanent residents to petition for their loved ones to join them or remain with them in the United States. These family-based applications are one of the most common ways to obtain lawful permanent residence (a green card).
At The Viera Law Firm, we help with:
-
Immediate Relative Petitions: for spouses, parents, and unmarried children under 21 of U.S. citizens.
-
Family Preference Petitions: for siblings and adult children of citizens, and for spouses and children of permanent residents.

Adjustment of Status: applying for a green card while in the U.S.

Consular Processing: completing the process abroad at a U.S. consulate.

VAWA & Special Immigrant Juvenile Visa
Through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), survivors of abuse by a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse, parent, or child can apply for lawful status without the abuser’s knowledge or consent. VAWA offers a confidential path to safety, independence, and permanent residence.
SIJ status protects children in the U.S. who cannot return home due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment by one or both parents. With a state court order, eligible minors can apply for lawful permanent residence, giving them the stability and protection they deserve.
At The Viera Law Firm, we specialize in VAWA cases and SIJ Visas, providing compassionate and confidential representation to help survivors, children and families find safety and independence.
Contact us today to speak with an attorney who specializes in VAWA petitions and Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status.
